Where the listings come from
Every listing on Depression Care Finder starts from public data. Clinic listings are built from public treatment-center locators and the federal provider registry maintained by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System, NPPES). Counselor listings are built from the same NPPES public registry, using the credentials recorded there. Support-group listings for Narcotics Anonymous come from the Basic Meeting List Toolbox (BMLT), the public meeting-data system NA service bodies maintain; each listing carries its snapshot date, and we list Alcoholics Anonymous meetings only with the permission of AA’s service bodies.
A public source is a starting point, never a verification. Sources go stale – clinics move, close, change phone numbers, and change the insurance they accept – which is why this site exists.
What “verified” means here
A listing is marked Clinic-confirmed only when the clinic itself has confirmed the information – the insurance plans it accepts, whether it is accepting new patients, and its contact details – and the listing shows the date of that confirmation. Everything else is marked Unverified, in plain sight. We do not fill gaps from insurer directories; an insurer’s listing is exactly the kind of second-hand data this site was built to check.
Confirmed status expires. We re-confirm with clinics on a 90-day cycle, and a listing whose confirmation lapses returns to Unverified until the clinic confirms again. When a clinic tells us something on its listing is wrong, we correct it – the clinic is the source of truth for its own listing.
Counselor pins are placed at the center of the listed city and labeled as approximations; a pin is a neighborhood guide, not a promise of a street address. Support-group listings show their data snapshot date, and meeting times change – confirm before attending.
Treatment information
Our plain-language treatment guides draw on the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) product labeling and safety programs, including the Spravato Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS). This information is educational and is not medical advice; decisions about treatment belong with a clinician who knows your history.
